Ecco the Dolphin (Genesis)

Here it is, folks. Our next Game Club game is Ecco the Dolphin for the Sega Genesis.

Episode 65 (01/21/08) – Burnout till there’s Burn-in

This week Burnout Paradise hits the 360 and PS3, so we spend some time talking about the series’ history and its journey from being an Acclaim-published title that no one paid attention to to one of the biggest game franchises around.

Also this week, we talk about some of the games we’ve been playing, including Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Rock Band, Boogie Bunnies, Metal Slug 3, Omega Five, Bonk 2 and Just Cause. Next week’s game club game is Ninja Gaiden (NES). Star Tropics (NES)

In Episode 64 we spent a lengthy amount of time talking about Star Tropics, Nintendo’s modern-day-ish action-adventure title for the 8-bit NES. Released for Christmas 1990, the game was (oddly) developed specifically for the US and European markets. Never came out in Japan.

So, let’s discuss Star Tropics here. What do you remember of the game? Did you like it? Do you think it still holds up? What’s your opinion of the god AWFUL control?

Nintendo released the game on the Wii’s Virtual Console on 1/7/08.

From Project Reality to the limitations of the cartridge format to the system as a turning point for Nintendo’s position in the industry, we talk about it all. Also, the first installment of a new segment where we pick a retro game and break it apart. We start with Star Tropics, and if you’re a fan…you might not like what you hear.

We also discuss the games we played this week, which includes Tron, NFL Tour and Omega Five.
