Looking forward to inFamous demo talk. I enjoyed it.
Wish I could play Klonoa… damn my no backwards compatible PS3!!
Finally a game I own for Game Club!
Again. You know what…?
I am actually unsubscribing to this podcast because Phil Theobald is a complete and unwarranted asshole to Greg Ford. For which I have no comprehension of its origin.
Phil, you’re a dick. Sack up and don’t be such a douche bag and maybe you’d earn enough money to make it to PAX.
Greg your obviously some sort of masochist for sticking around for that shit.
I wouldn’t.
What are you uh…referring to. Something in this episode? Did I miss something?
@Chris Johnston
If you honestly can’t hear it, then that’s more of a personal blind spot then me overreacting. Throughout the shows, since Ford came out of the 1up re-organization, and has been a regular, Phil, for whatever reason, is a constant horse’s ass towards Greg. Go back one, two three, four shows, whatever and actually listen to him and how he speaks. You might be surprised.
Personal douche-baggery is something I just can’t put up with. And Phil has it in spades. Ask for Greg’s honest opinion about it. Maybe he’ll even say something about it. I don’t know him personally and have never met him but I have been a 1up user for awhile and Greg Ford is a genuine nice guy. And I don’t like listening to him being pretty much the bitch of the podcast. Again, I don’t even know why he does a podcast with you guys, and thats why I’m unsubscribing.
Other then that, I don’t have to explain myself or my opinion any more then I already have. If you don’t see what I’m talking about then there’s nothing I can do about it.
Hey Andy
Sorry you feel that way about the show. I don’t know what incident you might be referring to in particular, but I can see where you might take some of our conversations that way. All four of us are personally friends, and we take pleasure in giving each other a hard time once in a while. We never intend to hurt each other, though, and I know that I personally would let the other guys know if they took it too far. I think they would do the same.
Anyway, sorry you feel that way. I hope you might change your mind and keep listening.
@Greg Sewart
I appreciate your sincerity and forthrightness but unfortunately you’ve lost a listener. Not a huge disappointment to you I’m sure, but a loss none the same. I got enough of people being assholes in the service, so as to know when I don’t want it in my gaming podcasts.
“I don’t know him personally and have never met him but I have been a 1up user for awhile and Greg Ford is a genuine nice guy.”
Well, as someone who DOES know Ford personally, has worked with him, and is actually pretty good friends with him, I can confirm that yes, he is a genuine nice guy. I also have no idea where you’re picking up this “douche baggery” of mine.
Ford and I hang out on a fairly regular basis (friend-of-the-show Ethan Einhorn typically tags along as well), and well…I don’t know what to tell you. Maybe you’re misinterpreting our playful insult trading as some sort of personal slight against Ford, but I’m pretty sure he doesn’t see it that way. Again, keep in mind that I’m the fellow who is actually friends with the guy and frequently talks to him away from the podcast.
Could it be that you’ve somehow missed how the show’s various hosts have been constantly swapping insults with each other for the past…oh, 133 weeks (give or take)?
Considering that you’ve already pegged me as the bad guy here, I doubt there’s much I can say to…I don’t know…apologize? Although I really would be curious as to what I said that broke the camel’s back, as it were.
You’re the first person (that I know of) to mention my horse’s ass-like behavior, so I’m just curious as to what I’ve been saying/doing to Ford that would prompt this response from you. Just calling me a dick and claiming that you’ve explained enough doesn’t really cut it.
But, hey, if you’re done with the show because of me, you’re done. Hope you enjoyed the show despite me.
Of course, looking back on this post now, I realize that it sounds relatively douche baggy in its own right. I can’t turn it off, people!
@Phil Theobald
What I was going to do was to go back and clip out the segments of you being unnecessarily (THIS right here being the main key word) dickish to him. But then I realized that would be a giant fucking waste of my time, not to mention to big of a file. I’m not here to defend Ford, he’s a big boy and can do that himself, what I’m saying is that it seems like you single him out in a malicious and unfriendly way.
And yeah I’ve listened to you guys since about 60 episodes ago, and yeah I know the show’s modus operandi, so I’m not going in blind as it were.
There is no straw, its just the accumulation of your acrimonious attitude, that I decided not to listen. I’m not a stranger to people just fucking around and being guys. I did serve 4 in the Corps. But what has got me done is the singling out of Ford. And I didn’t “just call you a dick and claim its enough” In my second post I explained why I did blow up a bit but otherwise stand by what I’ve said. If you don’t think your single him out, then I’M telling you as a LISTENER, someone coming into it with No pre-disposition for anyone, thats what I hear.
Otherwise I’m not here play moderator. I’m just tired of what I hear. And yes I never met the guy personally but that doesn’t matter because for me its about the principle of not wanting anyone to get singled out for anything in a negative way unless its well-deserved. Call me whatever, but after getting shot at by people that well and truly hate you for no other reason then your american, I’d rather have people, friends especially, not be malicious to each other.
An “Edit” button would be appreciated as well.
That’s weird. I always figured that if I was singling out anyone to be unnecessarily dickish to, it would be Sewart. I mean, he’s whom I’m aiming for most of the time.
And to be fair, you really didn’t do much explaining. In your second post, you really just said that I have a history of being a horse’s ass and a douche bag. CJ, Sewart, and I chimed in stating that we were curious for examples of said ass/douche-ishness, but none was given. Just a claim that if we can’t see my ill behavior, it’s a problem with our perception instead of you overreacting.
Not to get all “burden of proof”-y here, but – you know – burden of proof and all that. You don’t need to put together a clip show or anything, but a simple “Phil, when you said THIS in the recent episode, it was a bit over the line” would be nice.
Like I mentioned, this is the first time that we’ve heard anyone complain about me “picking on” Ford, so if you can look past how obvious it seems to you, you can see why we would be a little confused. Especially since Ford, whom I must stress is MY-ACTUAL-FRIEND-IN-REAL-LIFE-WHOM-I-HANG-OUT-WITH-ON-A-REGULAR-BASIS-BECAUSE-WE-ARE-ACTUALLY-FRIENDS-WHO-GET-ALONG-AND-LIKE-EACH-OTHER, has never even hinted at such a “problem.”
I dunno…maybe we can take the insult humor a bit far sometimes. I’ve always felt that we spread it around fairly well, though. If it makes you feel better, just try to remember that the four of us have been really good friends for several years. The main reason that any of us really do the show if simply for an excuse to spend a couple of hours a week talking to our buddies who live in different parts of the continent. It’s also good to know that we’re not putting on any sort of act on the show. We’re pricks to each other even when we’re not recording. That’s how our friendship works. We’re jerks to each other and then have a laugh about it because we all know that none of us mean it.
But hey, maybe you don’t care about that. Maybe you think we don’t spread the assiness around enough. Maybe our sense of humor doesn’t perfectly mesh with yours. That’s cool. You don’t have to listen to me being a jerk anymore, and I don’t have to worry about offending the internet stranger who decided to pop onto our boards one day to call me a dick.
Either way, Ford and I are still buddies. We currently have tentative plans to go see Terminator when it opens. Because that’s what guys who don’t like each other do…go see movies together.
@Phil Theobald
Terminate away. Whatever you want to do is fine, worry about whoever or whatever. I really don’t care because whatever your relationship is with Ford outside of the podcast is exactly that. Outside of the Podcast. Therefore, you assume that what listeners hear is in the exact same context with which you think it to be. Obviously you’re mistaken.
As for examples the most recent, I guess you could call it the ‘straw’, would be your intros for this very podcast. Granted its a small thing, but even the others were a little confused, and that just made me say “Fuck it. I’m out.” Small? yes. First of its kind? not at all.
Like I said before I’m not going to go digging from 10 shows back looking for examples and writing them down. I really have better things to do with my time. Maybe I will, I don’t know yet how much I want to further expound upon this. But think on this though. You make a podcast. Why? Because you want people to listen to it right? Well, as a listener (former) I’m telling you what I hear. Think about it. Every fucking podcast from you is snarky little comments. Thats all I hear. It got old, and I didn’t like the picking of of Ford. You put it out, then try to defend it out of context by bringing in you guys going to the movies. Doesn’t work because you don’t and can’t see it from our perspective.
Again, ask Ford. If he truly thinks that you don’t go a little far sometimes with him, then i guess its my mea culpa. And I’ll drop the argument along with already dropping the podcast. It seems like your one of those who can dish it out but can’t take it because here you are trying to defend how you come off and not thinking about what I say or have said holds any “truthiness”.
Internet Stranger? Yeah I can see that.
Alright,
My name is Andrew R. (obviously redacted for the boards)
I’m 25 years old in between the ages of 18-22 I was a US Marine with an MOS of 0311 (Infantry) My unit was in the 1st battalion 3rd regiment aka Lava Dogs. I fought in late ’04 in Fallujah and was lucky enough to come out in one piece although some of my friends did not.
at 23 I started to go back to school and came here to Northern Ca to pursue a degree in English. I have a dog named Hachi.
Now you have a face to argue with. I hope you reevaluate your ideas.
Also, my favorite color is blue, I like peeing in other people’s plants when I’m drunk, I’m part Irish with maybe like 10% native American thrown in, I think girls are fun to play with, and I like to argue.
I think this has officially been taken too far. Unsubscribe if you like, but I think you’re reading things into it. Every one of us makes snarky comments to and about each other during the show and off-air. And it is nothing more than friendly ribbing. We make fun of Phil for being a teacher, Sewart for being fertile, me for being tall and powerful, and Ford for liking sports. If one of us felt it was out of line we’d say something off-air.
Too far would calling each other “ass bandits” and threating to kick each other’s assess. Which is not what I’m doing.
You all asked why, and I’m responding. If you can’t handle that or hold a conversation about it I’m even less impressed then before. I gladly unsubscribe and wash my hands of this whole thing.
Oh, don’t worry. I have no intention of arguing with you.
So it was the “Beauty and the Beast” reference (among other things, I know) that got to you? Me quoting one of Belle’s songs for Ford’s intro? Well, OK. It seems that you’re the only one who really considered that as “picking” on Ford (and that includes Ford himself), but that’s your opinion. No harm, no foul.
See? No argument.
It’s really not a matter of “not being able to take it” as much as it was that I – along with CJ and Sewart – were a bit confused as to your sudden declaration that I was a dick. Mainly because you’re the first person to have claimed as such (as far as I know).
So now you’ve explained, and it’s clear that we simply have different senses of humor. Eh, it happens. I’ll just chalk it up to “you can’t please all of the people all of the time.”
Good luck with the degree!
