Generation 16 – Episode 005

Months of waiting are finally over! The fifth episode of Generation 16 is now live on YouTube and over on Archive.org.

This episode features a game that many consider the birth of the modern real-time strategy genre, the first Mega Drive shooter from Toaplan, and the first game created specifically for a home console by Yu Suzuki’s AM2 division. Watch it, won’t you?

Great Episode, but I thought you might like to know, Herzog Zwei may be gone, but there’s a F2P game called AirMech that might as well be a remake.

Giant Bomb did a quick look.

Great episode. I still own every game in this episode. Well except for mahjong cop. I think someone noted about that game before that the characters in the game are ripoffs of Holywood movies. They have a terminator like character . A robocop guy, a dirty Harry look a like etc. you can see some of them on the box art. Another reason it would have never come out here. I was never too impressed with the extra levels in Golden axe as they were basically boring recycled caste tile for the levels and pallete swapped enemy’s. I thoroughly enjoyed Vermillion in the day but could never go back and play it now. It did a decent job at what it was trying to do. The music was great though. Another thing to note is on Herzog Zwei you could play through the blu campaign with the 2P controller and play as the bad guy and get his ending and cut scenes. I didn’t get the game at first either but once I figured it out it was great. One of my favorite Genesis games.
