I remember when I was a kid, I told my Dad Mega Man X was coming out, and he said "I can't believe it's up to ten already" and I was like "NO IT'S NOT TEN" but he didn't believe me.

It totally didn't help that Capcom renamed the Japanese Rockman games which used numbers to the Megaman games which used roman numerals.
When the last game was called Mega Man VI, it's not hard to see how many thought Mega Man X was Megaman 10.
Come to think of it, I'm glad that Capcom USA decided to switch over to just standard numbers starting with 8. It would've been awfully confusing if the 2010 Megaman game was also called Mega Man X!
