I also recommend taking a look at Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon. It's flawed, but its one of the most artistic and visually beautiful games I've ever played.

I'd recommend Kyotokei for WiiWare. It's a not very expensive shmup that pays pretty blatant homage to Ikaruga. Kind of ugly, bot a lot of fun.

I'm going to agree with Satoshi here, Fragile Dreams is a really unique experience. Not terribly long either so it's not a huge time sink.
