___________________________________________________________

I for one am extremely excited to pick this up on day one. It seems with today's download services like Virtual Console, many companies have lost the urge to bring out fantastic retro collections. Not Sega, Sega has decided to grace us with a large pile of some of the best games from the Genesis library on one disc to play on our PS3 and 360's. This sort of strategy needs to be rewarded if we want to see it continue. I also look forward to reading what Phil wrote about all the games in the history sections.

Anyone else excited?

This game sucks. What a waste of your $30. Play them on emulators instead if you must play old, shitty Sega games.

I'm kind of excited because I've barely played any Genesis games. I really hope that either the SF4 Fightpad is configured properly as a controller, or that the controls are remappable.

I never owned a Genesis back in the day (I was a hardcore SNES junkie), so this'll be a nice way to check out what I was missing all that time. Hell, it'll be worth it just for the arcade version of Strider - I must've spent a billion hours plowing through that game in a dozen different movie theatre lobbies back in the day.

Honestly, I'm kind of having a hard time justifying my eventual purchase of this because pretty much all the games I care about (Sonic, Phantasy Star) are games I have on other collections. Then again, none of those collections include the Shining Force games nor the original Phantasy Star, so $30 for those games, a bunch of other games, and additional non-game material does sound good.

Already, purchase justified. Now just gotta wait for release.

I pre-ordered this game yesterday on Amazon.ca.

A heads up to Canadians. Furutreshop and Best Buy have it listed at 39.99. Amazon.ca has it for 29.99 and if you add 10 bucks with another purchase you can get free shipping. What i did was added a 1400 points card for 18.99, then i created a new account with my work email and used the Visa 10 bucks of 40 code, bringing the whole total to 44 bucks I think.

What's E-SWAT?

I'm debating picking this up. I own both copies of Sega Genesis Collection, which this shares a lot with, but I do love me some trophies, Dynamite Headdy, and Phantasy Star.

That is for sure.

Phantasy Star 4 is enough reason for me. I got about 3/4 of the way through it back in the day, and when i took ti back to Microplay to rent it for another week some one had returned it. and that person never returned it. Loser.

I've got mine preordered as well. I'm so very glad that they decided to include the original Phantasy Star. Hopefully this will be the first re-release of that game that isn't broken and I can actually play it. The game is too level grindy to play with a save bug in it. That and the graphics won't be squished. Yay!

Also saves me from buying the entire Phantasy Star and Shining Forces series on Virtual Console for $48. :)

Does anyone hear tell of emulation problems being more prevalent on either of the different versions?

I might get it, but I do have several of the other Genesis/Sonic collections out there. And I did own a Genesis instead of a SNES back in the day because Mario was shitty and Sonic ruled. :)

Actually, you have to turn the filters on. They default to off. Which is good because they're ugly.

Anyway, buy multiples copies, everyone! They're cheap, and they make the perfect gift!

This collection looks absolutely amazing. I really, really wish I was more of a Sega fan, but I was just never really into many of those games. Even though I've played many of them, I just don't have enough great memories playing any of them to pick the game up. If Wonder Boy In Monster Land was on it, I'd buy it just for that. Or Psycho Fox. I'll just have to buy Wonder Boy on VC, which is still one of my favourite games of all time.

I am actually the opposite, where I never had a Sega system, but want to pick the collection up because I missed out on those games.

So which version are you getting if you're multiplat? Since I can't tell that there's any difference I'm leaning towards the PS3 version for some trophy love. Or maybe I'll get both...even $60 would be a good deal for what you're getting :).

PS3, because I don't want to deal with that 360 d-pad and I don't want another reason to have to buy a Street Fighter IV fight pad on top of the Tournament Edition stick. :(

Funny thing is I do have the SFIV Fightpad for PS3 preordered in addition to the 360 stick...mostly for all of my BC PS2 fighters, and I guess now the Genesis collection as well.

The fact that it has every Phantasy Star is reason enough for me! My bro is also getting it. I hope it sells well enough for Sega to contemplate other compilations.

Compilations usually sell well, so I don't see why this one wouldn't, especially since it is such a good value.
