This is the middle of the song. Beginning and end aren't done yet. and of course unmixed as well.

New version. Needs a better ending, and I want to condense the intro down.

What if you slowed the tempo down a bit when the music kicked in?Here's my entry.
*edit* Are you keeping the piano music at the end?

You mean slow down the whole song in general? I kind of like how energetic it is, but I guess it can't hurt to mess around with the tempo a bit.

a) The short version that was edited for intro purposes:
http://www.zshare.ne...672525cc30529c/
b) A full version:
http://www.zshare.ne...6726610a3fd6d1/
You can use both of them -- if you need a sample to loop, your best bet is in the full version.
c) Alternatively, if the music sounds a bit pessimistic, I created a happy version of the same theme:

I think it would be a good idea if you guys had a segment dedicated to this on one of your future shows. Maybe you could all listen to some of the best submissions and comment on them and then decided which you think deserves to win.
you know, that's a really great idea. it'd be fun to listen to the crew discuss the musical stylings of the player one audience

They did that on Rebel FM when they had a similar contest. It was entertaining.
yeah, i didn't really like the one they went with in the end, only thing it had going for it was it's originality. The ones posted here are all a little samey but if I was able to make one I'd actually do something 8-bity too so mine would probably end up sounding like the rest.

You can take a listen here...
...and you can download the contest-entry version here...
... **NEW** due to popular demand from a few of the people that have heard it, I extended my entry into a full song that you can scope out here. It has more garage band elements in it though.
If you'd like any changes made, please by all means feel free to let me know; I can change anything about it at a moment's notice.

I hope we get an interesting judging process and not just some little winner shoutout 20 seconds short of the end of the podcast.

Thanks man! I'm just glad I got the inspiration I needed in the nick of time... I was mulling over different tunes for weeks and nothing came of it at all

OK! My entry is complete (with autofade!) I present to you, "Insert Coin". I composed it with a DSi and Korg DS-10, as well as a Game Boy Color with the Game Boy Camera. Then using Garage Band '06, I compiled it, added percussion and tweaked the volume levels and effects and voila.

It never occurred to me that the GB Camera mode that I used to show funny faces and produce noise was actually being used to make real music.
I imagine it's a mostly untapped resource. Like using excel to create art...
