I'm getting a $10 credit with my pre-order I put in months ago. Looks like it's gone now.

The $10 credit is still available, but the box that usually has it listed near the top has been replaced with the Black Friday stuff. Scrolling down, you can see the credit is still being offered.

@Greg The pre-order car is the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Stealth. It' also not showing up in the game listing page but shows up as a banner ad on the Video Games title page now and again. The CE also has 5 exclusive cars but it looks like Amazon is sold out of their expected shipment. There's probably something in the PS3 SDK causing all this.

I probably would've opted for the Signature Edition if they sold it here. But with the current exchange rate putting it ~$275, no thank you.

I've been watching this guy for 15 minutes now, and I'm honestly feeling less impressed with the game the more I see of it. :/

There are just a lot of little things that seem rather dumb. For example, the sound effect you hear when you make contact with other cars. I swear it's the exact same thud they used in GT1. For a game built on realism how could that make it into the final version of this game? It sounds like something a developer would use as a placeholder in alpha code.

I think it looks amazing.

Sounds are much beefier, tracks look great, even the standard car models don't look that bad.

EXCITE!

It appears a good portion of the cars in the game have absolutely no damage. I could be wrong, but I've seen him bash into a lot of walls and it appeared by this mediocre feed that there wasn't even a scratch on the paint.

The load times look pretty crazy. Some tracks looked like they were taking 45 seconds to load.

I can see the disparity between 200 premium cars and 800 non premium getting annoying. I think it was a mistake to have any differences. They should have had 400 premium cars instead of the set up they have now, or whatever number of premium they could get done.

People on forums are talking about noticeable framerate drops, and screen tearing.

Oh, and the save file is locked. :/

Don't get me wrong, the game is a graphical showpiece, and that is exciting on some level, but I'm just questioning how much else I'm getting here that I can't just get with a game I already own, Forza 3. Oh, and I also own Prologue, which is a good taste of what GT5 has to offer.

He's playing mainly arcade mode which doesn't have damage and as I understand it as you level up damage / mechanical damge etc become a bigger deal. Someone was saying you have to be level 20 before full damage / mechanical damage is in effect. Not sure if that's true though.

Dude that's streaming didn't do the pre-install, so tracks and such are installing as he loads them. He said he wanted to start playing right away. Load times are still fairly lengthly, but the 45 second loads are most likely the install / loads.

The 800 standard cars would take no time for them to put into GT5. The only real work would be redoing some textures. You can't possibly think that the not putting those in would have given them the time to do 200 more premium cars. The lighting, resolution and redone textures makes the standard cars look pretty good to me (better than I expected at least). My only disappointment is no cockpit, so I'll be sticking to the premium cars.

Yep, there are frame drops when you get a packed field and there is some screen tearing. *shrugs*

You have another racing game, so I'd say don't buy it.

I think the thing about GT5 is that it's not coming across as polished as the previous entries, but for me I doubt it will hurt the overall experience of it.

I'm not very sensitive to screen tearing & slow down normally, so I can't tell until the 24th if they'll bother me. I'm more disappointed/annoyed that you can't turn off the HUD, can't change wheels on standard cars, the tracks from previous GTs they didn't include, that the Top Gear test track doesn't have rain and that they didn't include any of the reasonably priced cars so they could be ran on that course and that they put cones on it to show you where to go (it should be wide open and confusing as hell!)

They've put in a FOV change for cockpit view which is nice. The premium cars really do look outstanding and I can't wait to get into photomode and take some pics-the real car porn simulator is back. The course editor looks like it could be really cool. I like how there seems to be actual rally events-multi day events with multiple point-to-point stages, a co-driver who tells you the upcoming turns, in what I'm thinking are randomly generated courses. The night races where only your headlights illuminate the road look to be intense - and the fact that other cars will light up your interior if they're behind you.

example of cockpit FOV, plus lots of info

Likewise. A game as beautiful and immersive as GT5 just has to have an option to remove the HUD. Hopefully GTPlanet will start a thread/petition to get a patch that disables it.

This guy made a very interesting video explaining one of his big complaints with the game. He explains exactly why the standard cars suck, and how they actually affect gameplay in a way. He also shows how the exterior camera sucks in GT5. For some strange reason it follows the car in an awkward way.

I can't remember, but is it a new thing that the exterior camera is completely locked onto the car? I don't really remember that...

There have been a number of weird decisions with this game that don't really make sense, especially after a 6 1/2 year development cycle. Also, it's kind of disappointing that everything about the game that I've seen just looks like GT4 in HD. Strip away the HD detail and lighting and it looks like you're playing the exact same game (just with some much-needed usability enhancements)...but maybe I just feel that way because so many of the videos I've watched are from tracks that were in previous games. It's also very disappointing how piss-poor the physics for car collisions look. It's looks identical to GT1 in that respect. I'm sure it will be a great game, but I don't feel as excited as I should for a new game in one of my favorite series.

Would you expect any less for a game in such a huge series that's been in development for so long? Watching that video, I was annoyed at how annoyed that guy was about the cockpit camera (mainly because I don't usually play that way - I go for hood ornament or behind the car, depending on my mood) and stupid stuff like the headlights and windshield wipers, but the locked on behind the car camera thing could potentially be a real issue...I'll just have to play it to see how I feel because it's been so long that I can't remember what I felt the most comfortable with in GT4.

The big, 60 million dollar, show piece for Sony this holiday. No game will come under as much scrutiny as GT5 and that makes it the mating call the board warriors. They will be posting videos and arguing about how it's not perfect after a lengthly development cycle.

To Ty's point. Complaining about standard cars not having a cockpit view is valid, but it's been known since E3. Though the chase cam does suck and that's most definitely something that should have been fixed. Even GT1 wasn't locked on like that.

He said that because he apparently made a earlier version of the same video and people cried foul for some reason. He was even getting shit in the comments for the new video. Let's face it guys, there are some huge fanboys for this game, and they're not interested in admitting it has any faults. The guy seems very level headed to me. He says it's a great game in that video.

Saito, are you suggesting this guy in the video is being unfair to the game?

So you can't understand the frustration that someone might feel if they get a huge game early, create a video for people to show them the game, and then fanboys shit all over you in the comments for daring to be honest about the game's shortcomings?

He then went out of his way to make another video to better demonstrate the complaints he made, as people were attempting to refute everything he said about it in the fist video.

Ty: He seems like a bit of douché to me too. We knew there weren't cockpits a while ago. Showing the PSP cockpits, which amount to a blacked-out area of the screen, is laughable. Though I completely agree about the chase cam, he sure liked to insinuate that because of a lack of cockpit view, that he had play with a chase cam.

You are right that there are PS3 board warriors championing GT5 like it's perfect, but there's also a large contingent trying to pick it apart to find any flaw. Meanwhile, I'm just looking forward to actually playing the game. Alas.

The game has me very excited as well, in principle. But I'd be lying if I didn't acknowledge that there are some things that are bringing my hype down a few notches.

It's really one of those cases where a game is shown off and hyped for so long, and the developer has such a pedigree of unrelenting perfection, that the flaws stick out all the more when they show up. As I've already said, I'd be so happy if the game allowed the option to just "shut off" the standard cars, and allow me to only play it with premium cars. I'm actually annoyed I have to see and put up with the non premium cars. I'm perfectly OK with the game only having 200 cars. If they're the best 200 car models I've ever seen in a videogame, that is good enough for me.

I'm going to be a cockpit driver all the way, so I'll only be buying premium cars.

Wonder if they are going to DLC all the non standard cars over the next several years?

I generally race in cockpit view as well but I find that the roof/hood camera provides a very similar experience. I also personally never cared about number of cars. I tend to play a ton of racing games and it is the number of tracks that is most important to me.

Same here. Though I'll still race standard tracks. =P

Clearly Polyphony's intent is to build assets that carry over to the next generation of consoles (just check out the photo mode pics). Whether that's what they should be doing is a point of discussion, but that's the choice they've made.

@lactose - I'll bet there will be some DLC cars but they are going to be concentrating on GT6 --which should have a relatively quick (2 years?) turnaround since all the groundwork has been laid.
