I don't know if the battery life they're quoting now (3-5 hours assuming everything is off) is a + for it or the 3DS. And I'm not too thrilled about the price for the memory sticks ($70 for 16GB when I bought a 16GB microSD for $29 a month ago? Ninja, PLEASE).

Memory Sticks aren't proprietary.Gotta love Sony and their proprietary formats. When I bought my second digital camera I made sure it wasn't a Sony brand because I didn't want to deal with those damn Memory Sticks anymore.

They aren't exclusively made by Sony. The SanDisk sticks are often far less expensive.Aren't they made by Sony and only used in Sony products?

I'm not sure that's true. I'm looking at an HP laptop with a Memory Stick Duo slot in it.I do think Sony products are the only ones that actually use Memory Stick flash media though.

If you keep adding qualifiers then Memory Sticks will eventually be proprietary.Well, I wasn't including card readers, since obviously almost all those 2-million-in-1 card readers will support it in addition to CF/SD/etc. I meant that only Sony electronics use Memory Sticks as their primary/only method of storage.

Sony needs to be more like Apple in the mobile space!
*Sony charges 9 trillion dollars for extra memory*
That's not what we meant, Sony.

I don't see what the issue with Memory Sticks is any more considering they're licensed to third parties and sold for less.
But, if it's supported by non-Sony products and it's officially sold by third-parties, then it kind of isn't proprietary-- even if it is a card-reader. Many electronics no longer support anything other than SD, and SD isn't considered "proprietary".
