Was the reason this one took so long because of the Tetris history lesson? Don't get me wrong, it's always nice to recap it, but as a retro gamer hearing the story told yet again is like sitting through the history of Super Mario Bros. 2 and Yume Kojo: Doki Doki Panic. In the future, you might want to consider annotations.

(See what I did there?)

I see where you're coming from, but annotations suck. I thought about cutting the story down significantly, but that would be assuming that every viewer is as informed as someone like you. I don't think that's a fair assessment.
I understand that too, but I would think that the majority of the people interested in Generation 16 at all are retro gamers in their mid 20's to early 40's, not the kid whose first videogame was Halo. I don't mean to preach to the choir, but I can't imagine a significant number of your fans wouldn't know at least the just of Tetris' troubled legal past.
At least in my experience, retro gamers in that age bracket tend to know basic history, like the crash, the super expensive early 90s CD systems, Nintendo's relationship with Phillips leading to the CDI Zelda games and indirectly the Playstation, or the Dreamcast battle against piracy. The Tetris history is really only a little more obscure than those.
I hate to give you shit about it since you went so much in depth, but given your new baby and all it just seems to me you could've gotten this one done a lot faster had you abridged the Tetris history in annotations or shortened the history down to the key elements only.
In any case, looking forward to the next part as always. Like the NES, the Genesis really hit it's stride in 1990 and 1991. Really looking forward to you talking about the games from those two years most of all.

Currently trying to make sure I get all the important 1990 events in the right order. So glad I took it upon myself to re-read Game Over recently. There was some stuff in there I'd forgotten about.

I'm afraid I know the answer, but what do you use to edit the videos?

I put together the game intros in After Effects, and use Premiere Pro to assemble each episode.

Yes thanks for the late Cristmas present. Wish you could have shown some of the New Zealand story boss fights. Or more of Air Diver in general. And Target Earth was one of the hardest games I've ever played.
I'm so terrible at both those games I was lucky to get the footage I did

I sorta liked Afterburner in the arcades, but I didn't like how every machine I came across was 50¢, sometimes $1 per play. Why would I play After Burner once when I could play Street Fighter II four times?
So when it came to the Genesis, I was extatic. Even today, I think it holds up as one of the better looking games of that era. Same Deal with the Genesis version of OutRun. Looking forward to Stewy waxing on about the awesomenss that is OutRun.

I was shocked at how quickly PS3 came out as well, though the relatively short dev cycle does explain a lot of the game's shortcomings.
I'm about 2/3 of the way through the second generation right now, and I'm going to try to push through and get at least one ending. I really want footage of some of the more interesting plot points and the final boss.

Really enjoy these videos, Sewart.
I had a Genesis when I was growing up, but being as though I was a kid, I didn't really have a ton of games for it. I like reliving the ones I did have and seeing the ones that I never got a chance to play.

That's caused by interferance in non well insolated wiring from a AD/DC transformer. You could fix it by cutting and replacing the cord with far thicker, insolated wiring.

Yeah, 3rd party stuff likes to have the cheap cabling. I got a similar result using a 3rd party S-Video cable.
Of course...now I don't have much to plug an S-Video cable into anyway.

Stewy you're a real trooper for grinding through Phantasy Star III for all of us fans, but really, considering you'll only be showing a few minutes worth of footage spanned through a montage of the game, you don't need to force yourself to trudge through the entire experience to get to the ending.
Showing stills from VG Museum would be more than adiquite.

That's pretty awesome. I went the other route and bought a Micomsoft XRB upscaler, and went full RGB. Never has my CDX looked so glorious on an HDTV running at 720p with scan lines. I could go 1080p but the scanlines look a little off. It looks pretty much as good as an emulator running on a monitor. The thing is I got one of those Mega Everdrive cartridges so you can play all the ROMS off of an actual Genesis and avoid any emulator issues by playing it off of real hardware. And real hardware looks like ass on modern HDTVs. Thus the RGB and upscaler with scanlines.
