Hopefully they allow for online preorders unlike last year. Waiting in line sucks. If I do wait in line, I'll be sure to grab 2 with one to sell. With last years shortages I wouldve got a 180% return.
I love my iPad 2, but when using it after the iPhone 4, the quality of the screen makes me sad.
What else you think Uncle Tim has up his sleeve for this thing?

Based on what I've been reading, sounds like they may already be en route to retail, so maybe there won't be such a thing as "preorders." If I'm buying one, I'll swallow whatever wait from the web, because the whole madhouse at the actual Apple store is ridiculous.
I look forward to the cameras (we have an iPad 1) and having a tablet that won't be commandeered by my wife (or that she won't let our son play with... I don't have a huge problem with that, but I do wish the restrictions settings were more robust).

My six-year old loves to use the iPad for photos and videos. I'll let him know he looks like a douchebag and should stop. Why do people use the camera on the iPad other than to Facetime or Skype? Do they not realize they look like douchebags holding up a giant tablet to take a photo? These are all the same people that have iPhone 4s or 4S in their pocket anyway.

This thing better have some serious upscaling muscle, otherwise it's practically useless for things like gaming thanks to that resolution.

The rumors sure are making it out to be a pretty significant refresh, though.

Next year though will likely be the last year I can hold off. I'd prefer to do it every 4 years. But 3 will likely be my max.

It's a pretty fucking stupid name. But people will only ever refer to it as iPad anyway so where it will really be stupid is during the next announcement when they have to say "this iPad is 40% faster than The New iPad!"I cannot fucking believe it's called "The New iPad."

Calling it "The New iPad" is only going to add confusion down the line. And it's completely unnecasary. Calling the vita "The new PSP" or the 3DS "the new DS in 3D" would actually make more sense because there are people that have no idea what these devices are. But when you just announce that, what, 17 million ipad 2s were sold last quarter...? Everyone knows what an ipad is. Everyone knows the ipad 3 is the new one. You don't need to educate your customers with the name of your device.
Unless you think your customers are idiots. Which it seems that apple thinks we are.
And it just sounds stupid as a name. The only "new" thing I can think of was New Coke... and that did wonderfully (though that had more to do with quality than name). Not that im saying The New iPad will do bad because of the name, because it surely won't, but it is going to cause confusion and also a large amount of mocking from dickheads like me.
"Honey, can you pass me The New iPad?"
"What? You got a new one?"
"No, it's the one I got in March."
"Oh, why are you calling it 'The new ipad"
"Because that's it's name."
"Are you fucking serious? You own something with a name like that? I want a divorce. Also, I've been fucking all of your friends and they all have bigger dicks than you."
THIS WILL HAPPEN EVERYDAY THIS SUMMER! EVERYDAY!

I suppose they could call the next one "The Newer iPad." And then maybe "The Newest iPad."

They could just call them all The Latest iPad and leave it at that.I suppose they could call the next one "The Newer iPad." And then maybe "The Newest iPad."

I mean, it made sense to append "nano" or "touch" to the end of those models when the models were dramatically different, but within each of those product lines they didn't always change the name with each new generation.
Maybe the whole "same name" thing is a little too complicated for the average consumer though.

A Vita costs 160 dollars to make and it's got better innards than this... Are people paying extra for that Apple tax or is it the retina display is way espensive?

I sold my iPad 2 to Gazelle for 270 bucks so an upgrade essentially costs me $350 bucks. I'll take it.

2 years ago I got a Samsung Captivate (Android). Great phone. However, I'll be allowed to upgrade in about a month or so and I'm probably going to get the iPhone 4S. The captivate got stolen about 2 weeks ago. So I disabled service for it and got a new phone, an unlocked HTC Surround (Windows Phone). I bought that phone since it was the cheapest smartphone in the store. The Windows Phone OS is okay, but I can't afford an iPhone until I am allowed to upgrade.

Ok Indy... how much built in storage does the Vita have? How big is the vita screen? Go play with your android shit..
You're telling me that 16gb of flash memory costs apple hundreds of dollars? Because apparently, Amazon is telling me 16gb of flash memory goes for less than 10 dollars. The Vita's screen is half the new iPad's size, and retail 10.4" (larger than the iPad's 9.7") LCD panels go for less than 90, granted they aren't retina display panels, but, assuming the cost of the OLED display on the Vita is along the lines for 50-60 dollars? That's $100-110 between the CPU, GPU, memory, board and wireless chip.
So, how about that Apple tax?

Comparing production cost to retail price? Nice. Still, if iSuppli is to be believed, the margin on the iPad 2, percentage-wise, was probably the same as the Vita's at launch (assuming that $160 is accurate). EDIT: I would assume the input cost is probably pretty similar on the new one.

Actually, I'm pretty sure 16GB of memory is worth $56: http://www.amazon.co...31156981&sr=8-1

For a Vita memory card? Sure. For flash memory? No way.

I thought you were comparing the exceptional value of the Vita to the exceptional rip-off of the iPad.
That's why cheaper options exist. Even if I did buy the 16gb memory card, that's still 300-350, which is cheaper than an iPad. Either way, we all know accessory pricing on any electronic is BS. How much did the crappy iPhone covers Apple sold cost? Or the stupid laptop dock for Motorola android phones? You didn't "need" them, so they cost a buttload.
