The broadcast signal on ye olde Playerone Podcast reaches quite far, it seems, as a group of europeans who have a similar Everybody's Golf style tournament to ours has heard about ours thanks to the power of CJ, Phil, Sewart and Mike. And upon hearing this, their leader came up with a rather brilliant idea of doing a ryder cup-esque tournament of us vs them.



So here's how it's going to work, preliminarily atleast, I wouldn't be surprised if it's tweaked a bit before we start.



It is likely going to be the 18H tournaments. It will likely happen over 3 days.


It is a series of one vs ones.

So lets pretend the lineup is


Mort
Juanster
Levity
Sewart




And they have

Badteeth
potatoes
eurotrash
welosttherevolutionarywar



So the first 18 hole would be:

mort vs badteeth
Juanster vs potatoes
Levity vs eurotrash
sewart vs welostherevolutionarywar




So when looking at the results all I would care about is my score vs that of badteeth. Whoever has the better score gets a point. A tie means both teams get half a point. The loser gets no point.


We do this over three days, tally the points and one team wins and the other team loses.


Cool, right?


Now, I know a lot of you guys are thinking a number of things:


1. I'm not good enough, im only going to bring the team down.
2. I'm not from america and this seems to be america vs europe

To that I say:

1. Their group of guys is much like ours, some good, some bad. Also, while I certainly want to win, the point of this is having fun. But anyway, if you aren't good you will likely get paired up against someone of equal skill, and I believe in you, you can do this.
2. Everyone is from america in their hearts.
3. Stop being so down on yourself! You can beat that dude! I know it! And this is gonna be really fun. And the more people we can bring to it the better.

"Right. The next tournament (same format as before) which will run during next week will be a qualifying event for the GRCade team to challenge the Playeronepodcast forum. Basically the top (however many we can decide on) will play off against those good for nothing yankies in a winner takes 'not very much' tournament in a few weeks time. GRCade pride is on the line folks and we need our best and bravest to face off against them. I'm assuming that everyone who posted a score in the last tourney will want to be in but I'm also taking new names for next week so let me know if you want in."

A qualifying tournament is on the table. We are trying to figure out now the best way to handle seeding. There are pros and cons to being able to setup our own strategies... or just listing it best to worst. And yeah, having the first day be the qualifying day to see where each player is ranked on the team is a possibility.

I think we have more guys than they do, and i assume this will happen more than once. So we will figure something out if we have to pair down our numbers. But this is america, dammit, and everyone participates and everyone gets a ribbon! You don't even have to try! The less you try the better! USA! USA USA!

I vote for qualifying tournaments. Even in 2012 America, in extremely rare and isolated incidents that we don't like to discuss, merit is rewarded.

Ok so it looks like this will be happening next week. Tues/Thurs/Sat, to be exact. Team Europe is bringing about 15, once I get a final number we will do a 18h on monday (because I know most of you dicks dont check the forums on the weekend) which means a quick turnaround for me to get the results up and then people play their tuesday tournament. But I do think a qualifying tournament is the way to go and so say we all. /battlestar Anyone? Anyone? Sorry.



Also, our own Major/dailies is being revamped a bit, with the help of thekurichan, so make sure you check out that thread. Unless you are reading this right after i post it, in which case I still haven't written that post yet.



As I get more info in from Rex I will keep you all informed. Im still not sure how we are handling who is matched up with who. That's happening behind the scenes with a dagger in the back pocket.

You're the organizer and there's no right or wrong way. If you REALLY want my opinion, keep in mind I'm lazy. Do what's easiest and puts less time constraints on folks.

My rankings are also crap since I usually only get to play on the weekends nowadays. But I'm cool sitting out...raw scores don't lie or play favorites.

That is actually a good reason to use our Major tournament rankings instead of the in game ones (well, not to get you in specifically, but you know what i mean). Because the bargain thus far has been "play the majors" and now out of nowhere using the overall rankings seems a bit unfair. It should be based off of what's been the focus of here... the majors.

So it's been settled.




The lineup will be posted Monday afternoon (though this is just the lineup, not the order in which i will submit you all for the matchups). If they have 15 guys, it will be 4 P1P hosts and the top 11 players on the 'in' list in terms of scores from the 5 major tournaments up to that point. And if you don't make the cut this time you are automatic for the next one (assuming there is a next one... which I suggested to him we do once or twice a month, max).
