One initial E3 thought:
Sony better bring some serious Vita ammo with them to wow people. And by people I mean me, who wants more Vita games.

Nintendo is the only one releasing new hardware this year so it would seem they will have the only conference with the potential for surprises. Price and launch titles will be the big news. I wonder if that tablet controller still doesn't have multitouch support.

Sony's got a decent lineup already and I wonder if they won't just show larger tastes of stuff like The Last of Us. Microsoft seems to be making hay on showing (and having) little to surprise people. Maybe a mention of PS4, but I think the next Xbox will not be spoken of. (I think in business related news, you might hear more about MS going on the acquisition track as they'll need to have some in-house software on order with their next console, but I doubt that's E3 news).
I think Wii U will see a lot more skepticism in the gamer crowd than the Wii did in the E3 prior to its launch. A lot of "core" gamers are so disillusioned with waggle and touch controls, I'm sure some outlets will be looking to make some credibility with said gamers. That said, I do wonder whether the system is going to be much to write home about.

I am 99.99% certain it will. Nintendo probably doesn't put much stock in the technology, but most importantly, capacitive touch screens must be much cheaper for them to manufacture.I wonder if that tablet controller still doesn't have multitouch support.
The one thing I didn't really stress above but is true for me personally: I'm incredibly interested to see what Nintendo does with HD gaming.

That is their weird ace in the hole, that their franchises haven't transitioned to HD yet. Third-party games might not look like a leap on Wii U, but look at that Zelda HD demo. Look at it!
I'll be surprised if this E3...well, surprises me. Sony, Microsoft, and third-parties will continue to largely play it safe with sequels and save the new IP for the next high-end machines. And Nintendo might tease us with some interesting stuff down the road, but they will basically be previewing a launch, and they don't launch that strongly anymore. They put in a C-effort and let Ubisoft shit all over the place.

Rumors on the power of the machine are all over the fucking place, but there have been more concrete things peaking up lately for the controller. Evidently recent patents have revealed that the tablet controller may double as a universal remote, which is really odd.
I'm still curious if we can expect all games to allow you to transfer all the action down to the controller from the television or not.

How they initially said one 1 controller per system and that controllers won't be sold seperately is beyond me. It demonstrates a lack of knowledge on human behavior (especially younger people).
Sure, i get to use to use this cool new tablet controller, but you all can use a 6 year old WiiMote.

Other things about the controller we've learned through patents is that it will be chargeable (thank god), may have a cradle charger, and has flash memory independent of the pad's controller memory. What that will let you do with the thing is anyone's guess.

I just want to see how a pad is fun. I've had things in the past that seemed awesome on paper... from the VMU on the dreamcast to a logitech keyboard with a LED display to show additional info for games. But what i found in each and every case is that looking away from the screen is a terrible fucking idea. It's never worked for me.
I'm not nintendo's target demographic though. The Wii and the Gamecube are the two systems i've owned yet played the least in my entire videogaming existance. I'm just not on board with what they are doing anymore.
I would love for them to change that though. It seems unlikely to happen, but not impossible. I just want 2d metroid, LttP style Zelda, SMB64-2... some new sort of achievement system, a solid online platform and (for the first time since the SNES) strong third party support.
Yeah, that's not happening. That's cool though. Nintendo doesn't need me just like I don't need it. But they are definitely the most interesting of the 3 to see what happens this year.
As for sony, they best have a lot of vita games. While I disagree with Kirbu's assessment of the system so far (you find me any system ever that has 21 games with a metacritic over 70 only two months into its life...) i do agree that the future is in doubt and sony needs to erase those doubts. They can't announce a price drop yet, it's too soon. They can announce that the system will atleast ship with memory or something. I dunno. Something. But mostly just show games. Lots and lots of games. Soul Sacrifice looks interesting. They will be announcing that the super smash sony will be on the vita, which will be big for some (though not me... i could give a fuck about that game). They need to show off LBP and date it. They need to show off Killzone and date it. They need to show off COD and ASS Creed and date them. And then they need to montage like 15 other games so we get the feeling that there's a lot of shit in the pipe.
MONTAGE!
I've been saying for about a year that microsoft is breaking up with hardcore gamers and this presser sounds like it's the continuation of that.

Though, personally, you can count me out if its only just what you listed. The coolest stuff on the PSP to me was stuff like Patapon, games only the PSP could deliver.
As for the Wii U, I would definitely rent AC3 for it if it at least matched the other systems in terms of performance. I have low expectations for third party games, but having a little HUD and map in my hand for that game that I can interact with via touch screen (hopefully at a responsive frame rate) would be neat.

Thanks for clarifying! I don't defend Nintendo's stupidities (they pay people to do that for them. Those people do a TERRIBLE job BTW) - I just forward my 401(k) deposits straight over to them. It's a win-win relationship.Wenny doesn't defend Nintendo in so much as he just throws money at them and goes along on his merry way, indifferent to dissenting opinions.

EA - OverStrike gameplay is debuted to a very muted response. It begins its trek to the EA Parterns "Garden of Bones." First teaser of Respawn's game. You get reminded that you can check out trailers on Origin's website. Medal of Honor looks awesome because it is a demo of the PC version that most people aren't going to be playing when the game is released.
Activision - Bungie's new franchise is announced. It is a persistent world first person shooter that has an optional monthly payment component. Treyarch talks a lot about Black Ops II is so new and innovative compared to the last four Call of Duty games that were said to be new and innovative.
2K - A lot of Borderlands 2 I guess. BioShock won't be there, and Rockstar is another side of Take2 and usually doesn't do much (anything?) at E3.
Sega - Aliens Colonial Marines and uh... Sonic stuff?
THQ - Announces kickstarter initiative that offends iOS fans, fails to meet donation goal.
Ubisoft - Has by far the worst press conference for the third consecutive year.

I tend to like Ubisoft. I don't care about the quality of the conferences as long as the content is there, and last year they showed off Rayman Origins and I was on board for it.
Yeah, I was definitely happy to see Rayman Origins at their conference last year.
I've never cared as much about Assassin's Creed though, so that part bored me.

I just got an e-mail from Nintendo announcing a new purple 3DS. I remember the days when all Nintendo consoles were purple.
They should release a 3DS purse that looks like a Gamecube.

I'm hoping it will be less about looking away, and more about parts of the game moving to the tablet to use its features.
My super-crazy wish is that every game will have a simplified touch interface option (like touch a location to move there, tap enemies in rhythm for combo attacks, etc.) when the user chooses to stream the main gameplay to the tablet.

Also wanted to add that I hope that Nomura's The World Ends With You sequel teasing brings something to the show, though I doubt it. Same goes for wanting to see more Phoenix Wright x Professor Layton.
