I'm just wondering if anyone knows how Sony's whole activations thing works. I signed into the little account manager and was kind of taken aback to find 4 (!) PSPs activated on my account. I don't have 4 PSPs, so I'm not entirely sure what happened there. Maybe I should have deactivated my PSP when I upgraded its memory stick? Regardless, you get just two now, right? So I can't even have a PS3, PSP, and Vita all activated at the same time? Here's the thing that slightly confuses me, is all, and that is on a game by game basis that's not really a huge deal, but as a system level thing can I even have three systems associated with my account? If I were to get a Vita in the future would I have to basically take my PSP off the grid entirely regardless of whether or not I wanted to use any of the games themselves on the Vita? It's all a little confusing to me.

Which might be why what I'm asking seems a little confused. To try and sum up, how does it work when on the account level it's an entire system that's activated or not, compared with how many times a game is activated. Can I have a PS3, PSP, and Vita associated with my one PSN account as long as I don't have one game activated on all three systems, or will it stop me right when I tried to associate the third system with my account?

The activations are per system, i know that. I'm not sure if it's per game per system (like if you got Ratchet + Clank PSP could you put it on 2 psps AND 2 Vitas? <--that I don't know).

Actually, just looked up the ToS buying a PSone game (in this case it's chrono trigger)

"One-time liscense fee for downloads on 2 console systems and 2 portable systems that are associated with the account."

So in this case it sounds like you could buy chrono trigger and put it on two ps3s, a PSP and a vita (or 2 psp/ 2 vitas, but not both only 2 total). This is in a parallel universe where the vita can play PSone games.

So yeah, anything you buy that can be on all 3 platforms that use the PSN you actually have 4 activations, it's just split 2/2.

And too answer your bigger question, you can put your user account on as many Playstation devices that you want (in terms of being signed in to play online (assuming it doesn't need a pass), to get trophies, or whatever. It's just that as far as purchases go PS3 only can only be put on two (and it's the same two for all games, you can't buy Game X and put it on PS3-1 and PS3-2 and then Game Y and put it on PS3-1 and PS3-4). And any mobile purchases can only be put on two portables. And anything that can work on both (right now would be PSone games and minis) can be put on two console and two portables. But if you have a third playstation you can still sign in and play disc based games, you just won't be able to do anything with paid downloads.

I hope this helps. I think i was confusing.

No that actually made a lot of sense. I think my confusion did come from the fact that they talk about it being 2 activations, but on content that works on both portables and consoles that just got super confusing to me. The way you lay it out seems to make sense.
