While we wait for Season Four's final scores to be posted, let's start discussing any thoughts/proposed changes for next season's tournament.

We have some heavy hitters joining the league this season, so I think it's time we add a third league. I suggest having a top tier league with 6 players, including newcomers like Zephyr and ddally, obvious standout Kdoll, and the top three players in the Pro league. The second tier will consist of 8 players and the third tier league will consist of everyone else.

Momerath and burrito, still up for keeping scores? Please don't feel obligated to continue doing so.

Totally agree on the three-league system. Elite, pro, and amateur or whatever we want to call them.

I'm totally fine with keeping scores for another season.

How about we move to the second nine hole tourney, as first nine hole is always out second is always in, it means we will play holes we have never played before in this league.

I'm down with adding a third league and playing the 2nd daily tour. Sounds like a really good idea. Also, with all the newcomers joining(like me), how do we determine what league they belong to? Season 5 couldn't come any sooner. Can't wait!

This upcoming season is going to be a kind of re-boot. Since we are more than likely splitting into three leagues, we are taking world rankings into consideration for the top level league.

I am definitely up for doing scores again.

An idea for the major tourneys, how would we feel about playing the 18h on the last day of each major tourney. Would need to let people know ahead of time with a schedule of sorts, but could add some excitement. Also could be overkill and make people not want to do the full 18h.

So, based on Season Four's final standings, next season's two leagues would look like this:

Pro
Kdoll
Kurichan
Follow
Tygor
Matt
HOV
juanster
Greg
Maximus
Momerath

Amateur
thekranz
syndite
germeh
pcmodem
compeau
burrito
borstalshark
stewy
falion
nubuo
mort
zephyr
dbally
bobohoro

Taking world rankings into consideration, the new Three league system would look like this:

Elite
Tygor
Matt
HOV
Zephyr
Bdally
Kdoll

Pro
Kurichan
follow
juanster
greg
maximus
momerath
pcmodem
bobohoro

Amateur
thekranz
syndite
germeh
compeau
borstalshark
stewy
falion
nubuo
mort
powerglove
CJ
wenny

Any comments/disagreements? Speak up.

I'll be keeping score for the Elite league and both Momerath $ burrito will keep scores for the Pro and Amateur leagues again.

That elite line-up looks badass.

Oh, and if anyone needs some scores to judge my level by: One third of my dailys end in the top-100 (got my second top-10 yesterday! :) ), another third in the top-200 and I pretty much screw up royally on the rest. Like I did on real golf today, oh the horrors of water. :(

And if anyone wants to do a Ryder Cup (Go Europe!) or something else 'till the new season, count me in!

The only thing I would change is to even out the numbers a little bit. Why have 6, 8 and 10 when we could just have an even 8 in every league?

The higher class a league the more cutthroat it should be, is my reasoning. There is a noticeable gap in talent between the leagues and if the Elite league would have eight players, I'm afraid that the 7th and 8th players wouldn't have a chance against the top three or so. I know I wouldn't and based on the final standings, I would be the 7th or 8th player in there.

One of the reasons we split from one giant league was to have players compete against similarly skilled opponents. Also, I wanted to give everybody a chance to win something. In this case, their respective league and promotion slots.

Fair enough. So will 2 still fall out and 2 new ones be added to elite like the other leagues then? I love that we are getting the new patch too. We could even run our own tourneys with out the dailies if we really wanted to with the player rooms. Although I think they only support 4 players so never mind. But we could use that for a tie breaker round. That would be pretty cool to do a heads up just like the pros

I like the idea of the three leagues honestly. I think there should still be promotions/demotions, but maybe be smarter on the pro to elite division based entirely on scores or such. If we are going to replace two elites each season just to have them win pro tourneys by a few shots, it doesn't make too much sense. I was thinking maybe a benchmark that you can join the elite league if you consistently score high enough to compete in the league. For example if your scores (from either pro or amateur league) for the season average higher than the elite players scores (or even the lowest), you earn promotion the following year or something. It's a lot of numbers but I think it would be quite easy to figure out if someone belongs.

Just spitballing here, don't mind me.

The three-league setup that juanster outlined looks pretty ideal to me. I also totally agree that the higher-ranked a league is, the fewer people it should include. That will definitely help to cut down on people feeling like they don't have a chance of placing high within their league.

I suggest we stay with the two or three promotions/demotions between the pros and amateurs.

A promotion into the Elite league should maybe be decided by the commisioner or the top scorers in the Elite league. Not really sure if there should be an automatic promotion/demotion every season for Pro to Elite.

For the time being, just make sure you are on my friends list. Shoot me an invite when you get a chance.

As far as promotions/relegations go, I like having three swaps between the Amateur and Pro leagues. I think we'll stick with it. Between the Elite and Pro, I'm thinking two swaps with the only guaranteed swap being between the Pro winner and the 6th ranked Elite player. I'm still trying to decide on whether 2nd place Pro and 5th place Elite should swap straight up, or based on something more.

Keeping track of everyone's score (points, not strokes) throughout the year is out of the question. That would be way too much work, at least at the beginning of the season. Since we are already keeping track of everyone's total strokes, I'm thinking that once the season is over, I'll compare 2nd place Pro and 5th place Elite's total number of strokes and that will be the deciding factor.

Now, since we made the switch to three leagues it was easy to place new players in the elite league without having them move up through the ranks. Going forward, as long as we keep the same format with the same number of players in each league, new players must enter in the Amateur league and move their way up. There will not be any jumps from Amateur to Elite in between seasons. If there is a case where a newcomer is dominating the Amateur league(like kdoll this season), we may increase the number of promotion slots if the newcomer plays for more than half the season.

I'm trying to nail down some other rules, in order to avoid the confusion of last season. Here are some:

-If there is a tie for first place in any tournament, the next official round we play will be used as a tie-breaker.
-In the case of a holiday/pro-longed scheduled maintenance/end of world falling on a day of an official round, the next official round will be used as a make-up round.
-Our first major tournament will be considered the official halfway point of a season. This is really only important for the Amateur league. Newcomers entering after this point will not be given the "extra promotion slot" treatment.

Whew. That's all I have for now. Any suggestions/complaints?

Oh and another thing, other than the Elite league, the rosters I posted previously are not final. Just keep that in mind, in case we get some new, high ranking newcomers before Season Five starts.

I really like the idea of playing a heads up match in the case of a tie breaker myself. We could state that the rules and course must match what ever the last day of our tournament setting were. If we have a tie on a weekend match with the new patch a new daily won't be until Tuesday. If we do a player room match we can do the tie breaker on the monday when there is no new daily. Plus this would be more like a true playoff in golf where you would be matched straight up against you opponent instead of the field and we could declare a winner pretty much right away instead of waiting for the next daily results to pop up. Any thoughts from the crowd?

Great ideas Juan, but the patch may mean we need to rethink it, I guess we will see. I think one promotion to elite only, it's more elite that way.

Otherwise should be a lot of fun.

The only problem I see with match play is scheduling. The two people need to be able to play at the same time, right?

Is the player room match also asynchronous, like the daily tourneys are? The trouble is that if they're real-time, then we have to potentially wrangle players into coordinating schedules with other players, when they may not even really check these forums that often in the first place. I just worry that it may take a long time for some of those tiebreakers to get resolved. It's been pretty hard to get people to deviate from our traditional schedule with the asynchronous tourneys as it is, which I believe is why Juanster established the "next official round doubles as a tiebreaker for previous" as a new rule for the season.

Yeah we would have to actually get together and play at the same time. I see where that could be a problem. Why not just use the points for the tiebreaker? We only break ties for first place anyway so it would only take a second to figure out who had more points since we would only be adding up for 2 people in most cases right?

Who do you root for?

We are going to stay completely asynchronous for the reasons Momerath pointed out. It's always a huge mess when we try to change the schedule from the established routine.

So, when the new patch hits one of the big things that changes is having one daily tournament instead of three, right? That shouldn't affect our system at all. Does anyone know of anything that will? Just trying to see if there is a need to push back the start of the season(if only for a few days).
