In Topic: Will you buy it yet?

Wii U - Bought it for Pikmin 3, staying for the Rayman App.  I managed to get a second-hand deluxe edition for 300 dollars too.  Otherwise I would have waited until Pikmin came out.

PS4 - Nah.  I'm saving up for a Vita.

X Bone - Everything I'm hearing about the features is making me not want to buy it.

In Topic: Looking back on Operation Rainfall's games

10 May 2013 - 06:12 PM

If I could play them on the WiiU gamepad.....

There's always the Xenoblade sequel.

So I just finished Pandora's Tower so I shall share some thoughts on the game.  The game did get rather repetitive but I did play through it for an hour per day so I didn't get burned out on it.  Overall, I enjoyed the time management aspects because it reminded me of Majora's Mask.  The boss fights were cool because they reminded me of bosses in an Ys game.  As a matter of fact, playing through the game made me think that I was playing a Falcom game.  I guess that is why I enjoyed the game as much as I did.  Looking up the development history of Ganbarion, I found that they worked on various One Piece games as well as the Jump Superstars series.  The fact that they were able to break away from licensed games and succeed at making something new makes me look forward to what this developer can do in the future.

Warning: There is a major bug in the 11th and 12th towers in which entering them may cause the game to freeze, causing me to have to unplug my console to turn it off.  In my experience, the bug happened when I exited the towers and then re-entered without turning the game off.  I did not get the freezes when I entered the towers right after turning the game back on.

In Topic: How into DLC are you?

I only buy DLC if it is for a game I like and it actually adds something to the game.

I bought all the DLC in Theatrhythm.  I was okay with that since I like Final Fantasy music and I bought the game new for 12 dollars thanks to a gift card I got.

I bought some of the DLC for Mega Man 9 and all the ones from 10.

I occasionally buy tables for Pinball Arcade and Zen Pinball.

In the future, I may get some DLC for Fire Emblem Awakening whenever I get around to buying that.  I also plan on getting New Super Luigi U when that comes out.

In Topic: So...what'cha been playin'?

A friend of mine said pretty much the exact same thing about Pandora's Tower, but he also works for Xseed so... yeah.

Out of curiosity, does your friend go by hacker alias wyrdwad?  I know he's an Xseed employee who posts on Neogaf and the HG101 forums. (neither of which I'm a member of)

Completing the Operation Rainfall collection, I picked up Pandora's Tower.

I just finished the fourth tower and I am really enjoying it.  The gameplay in the towers seems like a simple hack-and-slash game at first but the the chain mechanics adds a bit of depth to the combat.  Also, the Wii controls for the chain works surprisingly well. There's also some time management to do in the towers which gives me Majora's Mask vibes.  I love Majora's Mask so this mechanic works for me.

Another interesting part of the game is taking care of the girl at the hub stage.  You must take care of her in order to strengthen your bond as well as prevent her from transforming into a monster.  There's also an old lady who will buy and sell stuff for you as well as forge items using the loot found in the towers.

People say that this is the weakest of the Operation Rainfall games but I'm having a blast with it.
