Worms: Open Warfare 2

This game flew under the radar, but Worms: Open Warfare 2 is possibly the best multiplayer, and one of the strongest overall, games for the DS.

W:OW2 has a myriad of kickass features:
-Single Player campaign
-Single Player Puzzle Mode
-Mini-games
-Local single-card and multi-card multiplayer
-Online random and ranked multiplayer with up to 4 players
-3 Multiplayer modes: Normal, Race, and Fort
-Online leaderboards
-Online rivals tracking
-Customization including team names, individual worm names, and flag icons
-A landscape editor perfect for the DS' Touch Screen
-A ton of weapons (including the Holy Hand Grenade missing from the XBLA version)

If you don't own this game, it is a must-have for the DS. The multiplayer features are phenomenal. But don't just take my word for it; IGN (8.7), and 1UP (9.0) all had praise for the game. Its score on Metacritic is 83. 1UP even called it the "best Worms game ever."

My friend code is 120369779439. Let me know if you've added me.

The game is also available for the PSP.

Funspot

19 August 2007 - 07:14 PM

Every year, my family and I travel up to the Lakes Region of New Hampshire to visit friends. For years, we've been going to Funspot. The place has tons of arcade games. Funspot is also the place where Billy Mitchell won the first perfect game of Pac-Man and some of The King of Kong was filmed there.

I recently wrote an article for Destructoid about it and it was promoted to the front page. I'd recommend the read to anyone interested in old school arcades. Has anyone else been here?

The Darkness!

27 June 2007 - 09:30 PM

Today I bought The Darkness. I knew it would be insanely fun. I knew that it would be an immersive representation of NYC. But there was one thing I did not expect.

Can you guess which of these features made me giggle like a five year-old?

*Executions
*Darkness powers
*Bitchin' weapons
*Hobos!
*Italian stereotypes
*Car chases
*Darklings

I'll give you a second....

If you guessed any of the choices above, you're wrong. Sorry I had to trick you like that.

The correct answer is this:

One of the interesting features of The Darkness was that  you could interact with the TVs, changing channels and watching public domain stuff. Near the start of the game, when Jackie visits his girlfriend for the first time, they sit down to watch a movie. As soon as the title, To Kill A Mockingbird, appeared, my jaw dropped. When Gregory Peck appeared for the first time, the amount of joy I was feeling caused me to nearly piss myself. I watched a fair bit into it, until the thought of eating hearts pulled me back to the actual game. I might go back later and see if  they actually have the entire movie.

This has to be the coolest easer egg ever featured in a game.

I love you Starbreeze. But not as much as I love Gregory Peck.
